About the Festival

The “Bardog Block Party” began in 2009 as a small gathering of Bardog regulars celebrating of the bar’s first anniversary. Over the last decade, the Monroe Avenue Festival has since grown into a community-wide event, drawing support from all over the city and the Mid-South

In 2010, we got a bit more serious about our birthday and partnered with Overton Square’s Breakaway Running to hold a 5K race at the start of the “Alley Party.” We also decided to donate the event’s proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Ethan Washburn, the son of our good friend and patron – and have been doing the same ever since (because of the great work by St. Jude, our friend Ethan is now cancer-free)!
